Es handelt sich um den ersten von drei Typen der <a href="Typklassifikation_(Von-Neumann-Algebra)" title="Typklassifikation (Von-Neumann-Algebra)">Typklassifikation von Von-Neumann-Algebren</a>. Typ-I-Von-Neumann-Algebren nennt man auch <b>diskret</b>.
